If you are wondering about some of the alterations process then you may find the answer here. If not, get in touch – or ask your stylist at your appointment when looking to find your dress.
We recommend that at least 10 weeks for first to final fitting, to ensure that there is enough time to complete the alterations required and you to try on to assess the changes.
We have two bespoke alterations packages available for brides who have purchased their dress from the boutique. Please get in touch with us if you have not purchased your dress from us for an informal discussion about whether we can help.
Most fitting sessions will be between 30 minutes to an hour – but this is indicative, we may need more time depending on the dress and the number of alterations we are planning.
A standard dress can be altered up by one size or down by two sizes.
If you are looking to really customise your dress or make significant changes we recommend you consulting with our seamstress before purchasing to see if it is possible with the design you have selected.
We highly recommend that you wear the style of underwear that you will be wearing on the day so that we can fit your dress to your silhouette as perfectly as possible. Certain support briefs and hosiery can make a difference so please wear the style you intend to wear on the day.
We find that you do not need to wear a bra with a lot of the styles in our collections. We have bust cups available in the boutique if you want additional support. If you want to wear a bra please ensure it is brought to all fittings.
With shoes we recommend you bring the shoes that you intend to wear on the day so that any hem adjustments are made with your height as it will be.
Most importantly during a fitting you need to be honest with us. Your style and comfort are our ultimate priority and we do not want you sacrificing either to achieve something that will detract from you enjoying your day.
During the fitting you’ll need to try the dress on and stand while our seamstress plans, prims and pins the dress so it will fit you perfectly once finished.
First off don’t panic – a bit of weight gain or weight loss is normal during the wedding planning process! If you have experienced a change in weight that is more dramatic then it is best to call us to discuss. Most dresses can be altered up or down by two sizes, but this is dependent on the style and cut of the dress so get in touch with us and we can talk about the best approach. Our in-house seamstress Sinead is incredibly talented and can work with you to contour your dress to your perfect curves even if you have gained or lost a few pounds.
If you have become pregnant, or have had surgery that has altered your body then please do get in touch with us so we can help and make a plan.
Communication between you and your seamstress is vital during a fitting, so we recommend that you bring a maximum of one person with you. You don’t want too many opinions, but you do want a trusted person – probably someone that is going to be helping you on the day – to assist with learning about how the dress goes on, does up etc.
